Name: Therru
Canon: Earthsea (novels)
Age: 13
Appearance: Therru is a small, dark skinned girl with long black hair and one brown eye. The right side of her body was horrifically burn scarred. That side of her face shows the scars most obviously. The eye on that side is completely burnt away. The scarring extends down her shoulder to her hip and all the way down her right arm. The skin on her fingers was melted together, leaving her with only a kind of claw for manipulation on that side. She usually wears a simple peasant girl's shift.

Note: This is not Therru. The Ghibli Earthsea film signifigantly changed her appearance.

Canon Point: Between Tehanu and The Other Wind

History:

Personality: Therru has been burned more than just physically. The trauma of her upbringing has left deep scars on her mind as well. Therru is deeply shy and will usually assume that whoever she meets has the potential to harm her.

Abilities/Powers/Skills:

Weaknesses: The fire that scarred her also burned away one of her eyes, making her nearsighted and giving her difficulty with judging perspective. It also burned the fingers of her right hand together, leaving her with only a kind of claw to manipulate with. That arm also has limited mobility due to the tightness of the scar tissue.

Therru is from the equivalent of the bronze age. Thus her experience with technology is extremely limited. It will be a steep learning curve for her to adjust to life on a spaceship.

Character's Name: Therru (Tehanu)
Character's Fandom: Earthsea
Character's Home Universe: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earthsea
Canon Point you're taking him/her/it from: Taken by a pod between Tehanu and The Other Wind, aged 14. Thawed in dragon form on Geldeheim. Unable to change back and unintelligible to the locals, the local authorities believe her to be a non sentient beast and exhibit her in a zoo.
Method of Arrival on Station: Joins station upon being changed back by stationites.
Physical Appearance: Therru is a slight girl from the isle of Gont. That means she has dark skin and hair, worn long so that it covers as much of her burned side as she can. Which you can't blame her for, as half of her face has horrible burns on the right side. This also extends down her arm to her hand, which is so badly burnt that most of her fingers are fused together, and have limited functionality. The arm can only be lifted to about shoulder height. The burn scars also continue down the side of her torso, ending at around her floating rib.

In dragon form she looks like this.
Personality: The first and most important thing one must remember about Therru is how deeply wounded she is, not just physically, but emotionally. As a young child, she was captive of a band of outlaws, who beat and raped her. The fire she was scorched by also consumed her innocence.

As such she is:

-Distrustful of most people and deeply shy. She is likely to assume that most people mean her harm or at least consider her hideous and bad luck to be around.

-Liable to go into a flashback if triggered in the right way. Some of her triggers include being touched without her consent and being suddenly near fire. This is one of the classic symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, something I think she has.

-Automatically more likely to trust someone who is maimed or handicapped or who just plain doesn't seem to fit in. There's a kind of comradery to her about that. Even if it's a person she doesn't actually like, if she sees them being bullied she's likely to react strongly.

-Constantly at least a little on alert and when adrenalized, slow to calm down. This is also a symptom common to abuse survivors, who have to constantly monitor the reactions of their abusers.

-Intensely self conscious about her burns. She usually wears her hair long to partially cover them up. She expects people to react strongly to them, but doesn't enjoy it. Freaking out about them, even for a moment, is a good way to ensure she won't trust you.

She seems to have a sixth sense for judging people. Unlike Sheeana's abilities, this is not tied to unconscious tics but seems to have something to do with her dragon nature.

Despite all this, however, she is in some ways a typical preteen girl. She thirsts for new things to know. She wonders a lot about her place in the world (probably even more than most preteens), about what will become of her. She even wonders, in an abstract way, about this romance thing, though she believes she herself will never get to experience it.

She can be remarkably mature for someone her age. She is patient and chooses her words carefully. She absorbs information readily and loves knowledge, but does not show off. In fact she's likely to look a little contemptuously at those who do. Some of this is probably due to having a former (ersatz Taoist) archmage for a surrogate dad.

Except when triggered, she rarely shows strong emotional reactions to things. She is far more likely to internalize anguish than to express it externally, to swallow it and let it churn inside her.

Abilities and Skills: Therru is from a world where most people use two different names, a true name and a use name. To know a person's true name is to have power over them. This makes her especially vulnerable to magical effects if someone should find out her true name.

Therru is a human/dragon hybrid, a weredragon you might say, a throwback to the time in Earthsea history when humans and dragons were one. As she grows older she will be able to transform into a classical fantasy dragon, about forty meters long, able to fly, breathe fire, etc. However she has not yet mastered this transformation and will probably only be able to do so in times of great stress or need.

In dragon form, she is a native speaker of the Language Of Making, the magical tongue of Earthsea. Every statement made in the Language Of Making is automatically true. In dragons, this manifests itself as an inability to lie (although they can decieve in other ways). A human who learns this language is extremely powerful but also dangerous, since the langage's reality warping effects are not easy to predict. She herself will not be able to speak it as a human but as a dragon may be able to teach it to others.

This post is for constructive criticism. It's also a place to contact me. Additionally, as Therru/Tehanu has been through some very triggering things as a young child, this is also a place where you can request to not have it brought up in interactions with her, either by her or in narration.
